Why are You Following Jesus?

When Jesus said “Follow me” did he mean to literally follow him as a soldier follows its Captain or did he mean “Come and hang out with me” as a friend does with another close friend?

As someone whom has experienced and lived within both ways I can safely say today that there is a huge difference between these two approaches.

You see the first approach develops in most of us a believe that is based on following someone in order to become like them while in the process somehow loosing our own uniqueness and true identity. In essence over time the aim is to become a clone of Jesus.

The second approach is prone to help us see this more as an invitation that aims to communicate something like this:

“Spend time around me and as you do you will subconsciously catch something from me that will activate something within your heart, also known as my presence, nature, image, and likeness (The Kingdom of Heaven), which will lead you into the truth where you will both discover whom you truly are in me and understand what is like to live within this world while drawing your life from the one you are truly from”

Is a wonderful thing when we finally begin to see that what God is looking for is intimate lovers and not faceless soldiers!

Have a great weekend!
