Some time ago as I sat inside an airport terminal waiting for my flight a young man sat next to me. He put down his big traveling back pack smiled and said hello. As we began to talk he shared with me that the reason for his journey, and one could see that it had already been a long one, was because he was trying to discover his real origins.
He shared with me that had been adopted very early on in his life and that he had grown up in a place, around people, inside a culture that was clearly not his own. He told me how he often felt within him that he didn’t quite belong there even though he was loved and welcomed with open arms. He said “something within me is pulling me somewhere different. It is as if I am being called by my real and original home to come back.”
When I sat down to write The Modern Fig Leaf one of the motivations I had within my heart was to help others discover where their true origin and beginning was, as by then I had realized that Jesus had come to tell us how life began and not how it ended. In this short video trailer I give you an appetizer that I hope, like the young man at the airport, you too will realize that we are all in the same journey as him. Whether we know it or not.
For most of us it takes many years, miles, and experiences before we begin to realize that the clues and the truth that will help us discover where our real beginning and home have been sitting within us all along in a place called our hearts. Jesus died on a cross so you could discover and embrace who and whose you are within your heart, and not so you could become someone you were never meant to be so that one day you could enter a kingdom that is far away beyond the stars.
