The other day I was asked by someone why was it that every time they began to look at others all they noticed first was what was wrong with them. Here is what I shared with this person…
When we look at others through the eyes of the law and performance we always notice first what’s wrong with them. Hence the judging. This way we can only see all that separates us and the reasons in our favor why we believe we are right and they are wrong.
Instead when we look at others with the eyes of love we see all that is beautiful and true about them first. Hence the unconditional acceptance and love we are able to extend to them regardless of what they might be doing that we class as wrong. Choosing this way helps us to see all that unites us and enables us to see that loving them will also mean loving ourselves.
As her eyes began to see and the smile began to appear on the face I said, “just one last thing which is kind of important for you to be able to do this from a selfless place and not a selfish one…. You need to start practicing this with yourself before you can extend it to someone else”
