Losing who we think we are is not an easy journey, yet necessary, if we want to find who God created us to be. Jesus told us as much.
Like so many of us I too invested much effort and worked very hard to accumulate the things I felt would somehow qualify me to be ready for this grand exchange and discovery. Sadly all I found was less rest and happiness accompanied by an even greater need to accumulate more.
Today I understand that in order to find this life all of us are after, we need to first be willing to let God undress our false identities which are made up of the masks we wear and the false pretenses we project as we try to somehow make the grade.
This what I am describing if we are all honest is an ever present reality in all of our lives every day. I know in my own life the amazing space I find myself in today spiritually is nothing more than the direct consequence of allowing God and His grace to undress me little by little. I believe every one of us, as Jesus said, carries within us the Kingdom of Heaven which longs to shine in and through our lives each day. You see I have come to understand that it isn’t so much about inviting Jesus to be a part of our lives as much as it is about us being a part of His life and what He is doing. Our false identity prevents us from seeing this by keeping us working really hard to try and recreate outside what we already have within us waiting to be discovered. This discovery requires a journey where we lose what is false and we think we are so we can discover what is true and we really are. Companions are priceless in a journey of this kind and so it with this thought in mind that I am delighted to share with you the brand new Study Guide I have written to accompany you and the reading of The Modern Fig Leaf.
