It takes courage to grow up and discover who we really are -pablo-
In this powerful scene from the movie Blood Diamonds we see a son that has been infected with the idea of thinking that he had to be someone else in order to fit. A child led to believe that what he had to offer was simply not good enough. We see a loving father that knows better and ignores the outer behavior and begins to speak to his heart, reminding him of all that is unique, true, and good about him. All that makes him special!
All of us are hurt and bumped in this walk called life. All of us can come up with dozens of reasons we are not good enough to maximize our potential, yet I challenge you to consider the following every time you do this – when you say you are not tall enough, I ask you compared to who? When you say I am not pretty or handsome enough, I ask again compared to who? When you say I am not as blessed or gifted as much as others, please tell me compared to who? Johann Von Goethe said, “If God had wanted me otherwise, He would have created me otherwise”!
If you look close enough you will find that you are wonderfully made. You are exactly as you need to be to fulfill the purpose of your life. The bumps and trials are there to shape you and refine you. It is your decision if you become better or bitter by them or if you allow them to unearth an undiscovered pearl in your life.
You see life is a journey and a story. It is a process and an ongoing discovery. You might be in the middle of having the foundations being laid, or perhaps starting all over again. No matter where in this beautiful process you find yourself in, life is always following and consulting the original plan that was laid out for you. A plan that is called THE REAL YOU. Hard times, which are part of any story and life, when approached with a healthy attitude can be the chisel that is used to knock down those parts that you thought were a good idea to have in your life, yet all they did was cover the good and true gem that you are.
I would like to encourage you next time you are confronted by the need to fit and deny the original you, to take a deep breath and remember what Andre Gide once said, “It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for something you are not.” Inevitably doubts about how special and unique you are will attempt to creep in your mind. When they do, remember this short narration below of what happened before your walk in this thing called life even began. You will see after reading it that there is and has been all along evidence of the pedigree and value that lies within you, even before you started to breathe.
Many years ago you were lined up in a race with hundreds and thousands of other competitors called sperms, which had the same tail and body as you. Everyone of you shared the same potential to make it to the finish line first. When the race began you were flushed out and had to compose yourself and gain control before you began to swim what is equal to swimming the English Channel several times over. As you arrived at your destination you were one of the first from the hundred of thousands that began the race with you. To succeed, as if that wasn’t enough, you still had to find the strength to fight and enter the winners circle before the others did.
All this happened before you even began to be shaped and formed inside your mothers womb so please don’t tell me that you are not a winner, that you are not unique, and special. You were a winner then and you still are a winner. No matter what has happened between then and now the same things that were good and true about you then are still here today.
You were born an original, don’t die a copy.
Always for you!
Pablo
