Let us all take some time to consider today that perhaps the reason so many people are evacuating the pews is because we have been communicating the message of the Gospel up side down.
Perhaps in our attempt to remain in control and try to make sure that we make it we have seen the message of Jesus as the way to get it done instead of being undone. I wonder how many of us ever take the time to see that perhaps all our getting done has been responsible for is preventing us from seeing that what Jesus said was that it was already done, and that nothing extra could or would add to it?
I know in my own life for too many years the focus was too much on being good as I had fallen for the lie that says that God loves what is good when in reality he adores what is real. You see I missed this truth when reading the words of Jesus where he tells someone calling him good to stop all that good stuff as only the father himself is good. Today more than ever I firmly believe that as long as we subscribe our lives primarily to a quest of being good, getting it right, and somehow making the grade all we will be a part of is what I have come to know as the bondage to the outward artificial light of our flawless performance (if that is of course possible all of the time) -:)
